Don't buy any new tires untill you are completely finished with installing any lift kits. You can lift the truck/vehicle by incorporating either a BL (Body Lift) and/or a SL (Suspension Lift) kit. I have a PA 3" body lift which I modified into a total of 4" by adding one inch to the new body lift cores. I also have an 3" AC (Automotive Customizers) deluxe suspension lift with 3-pac AALs and 1.5" extended heavy duty rear shackels, Sway-A-Way PowerBarzII torsion bars and Rancho RSX9000 shocks as well. To get even a little more lift to the suspension up front and help straighten out the tie-rod and CV joint angles, I installed an SLR (Spenser Low Racing) front differential lowering kit. With all this said, I can fit 33/12.50/15" Goodyear MTRs on my truck with no rubbing issues a all.
It sounds that you aren't planing on doing any or alot of off-roading with your truck due to the fact you said you're interested in running boards. So of course you'll want more of a street tire or maybe an AT (All Terrain) type of tire for your rig. If I may offer some advise, if you install a suspension lift and larger tires than the stock size tires that the truck came with, you will need to invest in upgrading the factory (basicly weak) steering system as well. After I installed my 3" suspension lift and ran some BFG AT 31/10.50/17" on the stock rims my factory steering system (idler arm and center link) worn out in only nine months to the point that a correct wheel alignment could not be achieved...
