As the namesake, I'm a ford guy. However, as a
mechanically inclined person I'm finding it important to
help my friend in her dream to make her 98 4x2 V6 Desert
Runner into a slightly lifted 4x4.

Now I've done 4x2 to 4x4 in old fords, not a big deal.
However I'm lost in the sauce and cant even find a lift
kit for this truck. She wants to be able to put 31s to
33s on it. I dont know how much of an accomplishment this
is for a nissan just because 31s are small for my usual
trucks. So any hints pointers or even good places to
start looking would be nice.

I should mention I'm really good at mix and matching and
she is attached to the "soul" of this truck. So just
buying a 4x4 is unfortunately not an option. Also she
feels like shes about to roll over all the time, is this
typical bad shocks or a common issue with her model of
truck?

..

Welcome to the group!

Many folks have converted 1998 to 2004 Frontiers to 4x4s. The popular method is to use 1981 or newer Wagoneer Dana 44 front and rear differentuals. they are close to the proper width and tough enough for 33 inchers. Several people at Nissan Four Wheelers have done this with no big problems.

Good luck.. Don S..
