Pardon the cross-posting :)
I ran into a Canadian who had an innovative truck cap from a small Canadian company called TukIt!. The cap is part fiberglass, and part heavy, PVC enforced canvas (the same material Mercedes Benz uses on their convertible tops, apparently) and has a full-size locking window on the rear. The canvas shell and glass window fold like an accordion into the fiberglass shell on a set of rails that mount to the sides of the bed. The process takes one person about 30 seconds to complete. It seemed novel to me at the time, a perfect cap for those that want to keep the honest people honest, in terms of security, and don’t want to have to remove a fiberglass shell every time they want to carry bulky items.
I emailed them last week to ask if they have our Frontiers fitted. To my surprise, Ron Hurst, the owner, and patent holder of the system, called me back on the phone. He said he hasn’t had enough inquires on the Frontiers yet to go through blue-printing, prototyping, and construction (a two month process) yet, but he was very interested in what I could drum up here on this site.
While he did offer me a commission of US$85.00 for referring Frontier owners, I have decided to pass anything like that on to you as savings should you also want to see the system adapted to our vehicles. In other words, I’m not selling anything here. I know I want to buy one for my Frontier CC, especially after seeing one in person, and I’m posting this in hope that there are a few more people who will be interested too so that Mr. Hurst will build them.
Please PM me if you are interested, and I’ll pass your name on to Ron. You won’t be obligated or anything, but PM me if you're interested.
They come in Black, Burgundy, Navy Blue, and Green, and are completely water-proof, not just water-resistant. Ron said lighter colors show dirt easily, though custom colors are available at a premium. He also said that folks are still running around with his eight-year old originals on their trucks, and that he gets a lot of repeat business as people sell thier old trucks for new models. Seemed like a nice, honest, guy. Perhaps we can have a bit of a say in the design too, since this is the first organized effort to get them created.
With that said, here are a few pictures of the system, and more can be found here:
