i'm a little more than irritated right now, when i bought my "new" fronty back in september i also got a mechanical service contract, or basically an extended warranty through my credit union who i financed through. i just called today to ask unofficially about whether or not it would be covered if i made modifications to the vehicle for such things to improve gas mileage such as intake and exhaust, and the guy told me he didn't know for sure but was pretty certain that it if something happened they wouldn't cover it if they came out and saw that it had big mods such as that on it. so i guess there goes my plan of putting on the exhaust and intake...although..i'm still considering whether or not to add a power control module to my vehicle, i guess i'm gonna have to go with just replacing the stock air filter with a K&N filter, who knows. any thoughts ?

Well they're not allowed to void or deny your warranty unless they can prove the modifications you did caused the problem.  It's called the Magnusson-Moss warranty act.  I know for a fact that it applies to new vehicle warranties, but you should research to see if it also covers your service aggreement.  Good luck.

here's a really good site on it.  K&N sends this out with ALL of their filters.  It almost completely covers the Act.

http://www.knfilters.com/warrantyletter.htm

This right here is the biggest portion that covers what you're asking.  Check your contract... if there's NOTHING that came with contract saying any modifications that change any "STOCK" item will void the service, they have to bite the bullet.  And if they do state that, they could be breaking the law.

Quote:
“(c) No warrantor may condition the continued validity of a warranty on the use of only authorized repair service and/or authorized replacement parts for non-warranty service and maintenance. For example, provisions such as, "This warranty is void if service is performed by anyone other than an authorized 'ABC' dealer and all replacement parts must be genuine 'ABC' parts," and the like, are prohibited where the service or parts are not covered by the warranty. These provisions violate the Act in two ways. First, they violate the section 102(c) ban against tying arrangements. Second, such provisions are deceptive under section 110 of the Act, because a warrantor cannot, as a matter of law, avoid liability under a written warranty where a defect is unrelated to the use by a consumer of "unauthorized" articles or service. This does not preclude a warrantor from expressly excluding liability for defects or damage caused by such "unauthorized" articles or service; nor does it preclude the warrantor from denying liability where the warrantor can demonstrate that the defect or damage was so caused.”

hey , i have heard of the Magnusson-Moss  Act , but i guess i just figured that hearing from the service company themselves, that it was set up from what they said. i guess that was kind a stupid to listen to the ones who would be trying not to pay the money to fix something i'm already paying for with teh extended service contract eh lol....oh well thanks for the links and  help y'all, since my truck is used i bought  an extended service contract through my credit union who i financed through who have it through some national warranty provider and as far as i know i didn't see any wording in the contract about changing things and what not,..i'll have to look at it again..thanks again y'all

also, when reading over that  information contained in the links..it seemed to refer to replacement filters...not necessarily new intake systems, has anyone ever had issues with that still got the manufacturer/warranty  prover to pay or fix the vehicle....thanks for advice

My nissan dealer who sold me my NISMO intake, told me that if I ever had drivablity issues to remove the filter and put the stock filter on, before bringing it in for service.

Again this is what the dealer told me.

the Act refers to ALL PARTS in general.  An intake tube is a part, along with a camshaft, even a engine block.

Like MileHigh said, If you make any modifications and start having trouble, take it off run it a while (if not major) and if you still have the problem take it to the dealer.  They don't have to know.  They screwed us when we bought our trucks, so why can't we screw them once in a while.  I should know, I sold trucks for a while (Ford's)  what was I thinking?

Now all the mods that I have made are removeable, except the exhaust.  What kind of problems can an engine have by having better exhaust?  I know I fell better when everything comes out smoother in the end.

Simple things like an intake shouldn't hurt an engine.  I even put one on my wife's 98 kia, and WOW at the mileage she gets now.  The TBS is just added space, how can it hurt.  But if it does, it can all be removed.  It's almost like just doing something and asking forgiveness later.  Personally, I think when we sign contracts we're screwed anyway.  No matter what it says or what it's for.

But I don't have a warrenty anymore, so what do I know.  I can do what I want.  If it breaks, i'll fix it.

I have the nismo intake sounds good but if you put it on yourself then they will blame it for your problem right of the bat. If you let them put it on then you can say you screwed it up. however they also charge out the ass for installation.  Mine was put on right at my house and i have had no problems with anything ackting up. but when i installed my radio i disconected the airbag switch and my check engine light came on and the intake was what they sad was the problem and they couldn't do anything because i installed it.  Come to find out they never hooked the computer up to see what was wrong. just a lot of bull i think.

I've got the AirAid Quick-Fit intake on my truck, it clips right to the bottom half of the stock air box and takes maybe 5 minutes to swap out and put the stock airbox top and filter back on!  My dealer has no idea I have an intake on my truck, and never will!
