Ill put in my two cents on the  Vg30dett.. Great motor, but pricy, fabricating will be fun, and two turbos arnt always better than one... that motor is very finicky... also when modifying it, you will more than likely loose your wallet and your patiance... also as a side note it would cost you about 6,000 to have a performance shop swap the turbo motor into a non turbo z32 non turbo body... that it belongs in, so think about the cost of it into your truck.

or for about a 1/4 the price long block trany and turbo stuff at about 3k

If your going for a v6, just buy any rear wheel drive vg30e... the non turbo from anything 88+ these are W series motors with larger wrist pins and better collant veins, oil squerters ect... just a better motor...  then buy turbo exhaust manifolds from any year 84-89 turbo, all vg motors have forged internals and can handle about 8-10 psi fairly well. the NA vg30e will have a higher compression than the turbo, but is still only 9:1 so your boost responce will be quicker. Also note, that if you buy a pathfinder Vg30e.. that the cams are differant and will lack high hp. swap them with any 84-89 300zx cam, turbos and non turbo have the same cam. heads are the same, just a diferant intake plenum and destibiter cap.. maxima destribiter is better , use maxima altanator as well, um... buy a z32 300zxtt feul pump.   This motor is good for anything along the lines of 300- 480 wheel hp depending on how extencive your modifications will be. join the zcar.com forum if this route seams afordiable... please note... the people in that forum at stuck up and rather than telling you what you need to know, they will point you in the direction you need to go though... and no other forum knows that motor better .

or be cheap and do what every one does...

just buy GM... make it carb, and run push rods...

i'd say more, but i dont want to over post... pm if more info is wanted.

Nate

Just a quick question...Didn't the KA get built with oil squirters when it went to twin cam in around 1992 with the 240's?

i believe that the Ka24de did get oil squirters in adittion to a new head , intake manifold, maybe a few more things, although it is still known to be the weaker of the two Ka motors, the 12 valve was significantly stronger.

Does the truck version of the KA have the same irritating issue with the upper timing chain guide busting off? I opened up the top end on a DE from about 94 (240 though), and the top half of the guide that seperates the timing chain from the valve cover had been resting on the chain itself and wore the tip down almost to a knife-edge.

No Nissan fixed that with the truck version KA24DE.  In fact, if you get a JWT cam there's a complete different set of instructions than for the 240 version.

Don't waste your time trying to piece together a VG unless you already have one sitting on a stand like I do.

Plus running with the VG you'll have to scrounge a ECU.  You want fast, and easy drop and go setup?  Go the simple route and get a 350 small block.  No shame in dropping in a GM motor into the baby and having fun roasting tires.  Motor, tranny, custom drive shaft, custom mounts.  No ECU, less wiring, tons of parts available.

Or you can just have fun with the KA.  I've played around with them for years, and I'll tell you a secret that most 240 owners never figured out.  Feed them air and tons of it!  They don't make a turbo kit for the truck version, but they never made a turbo kit for the 3rd gen Maxima either, and I know people who just made something up themselves.  Most people dropped for the SR20 because of parts availability... but you can get a KA to put out a lot of power.

The even easier way than trying to get a manifold done... check out STS turbos.  Their only downfall in my eyes with the remote turbo is the fact the intake side can easily be exposed to debris.

I have to say, we should never go the easy route... i was at a import car show and saw a z32 with a crate 350 in it... all i can say is that person has no right being near a 300zx, trucks are alittle differant, but still the thought remains. ECU scrounging isnt an issue, i've got 4... all running for 84-86 turbo for auto or stick, 500rpm idle diferance.  there may not be alot availible for the Vg, But... the motor is about as cheap as a 350, the Fs5r30a tranny is about 5-800, custom drive shaft... may be mounts availible, I think its very reasonable, besides if you turbo an Na motor and just intercool it and turn the boost to 8 or so, you can see some where around 250hp with out trying, just think or screw it, get a 20b rotory, those are running 9's these days.

There's quite a bit available for the VG motors.  I'm building up All Motor on my VG30E from my 90 Max.  Going with everything available to that series except I will be getting the VG30DE rods, and custom pistons.  Which btw, the VG30E has the smallest wrist pin size out of all 4 versions of the VG series not the largest.

The nice thing about running a STS turbo, you don't need an intercooler.
