Having driven my truck on gravel I am finding that the lower front portion of the rear fender really takes a beating from stones chipping off the paint. What is the best way to protect it?
I've inquired about running boards, but not sure if the tubular variety would give sufficient protection. One store had an alluminum extrusion that could be cut to go wheel-to-wheel, but I'd have to loose my front mud flaps and use their generic ones. Any info (with brands and prices if possible) would be appreciated.

It's usually called 'Stone Gaurd' but actual product is 3M Paint Protection film. It applies wet and the moisture is pushed out during application. For God's sake if Anyone gets it done, ask if the film is pre-cut or done on the truck...We do the stuff at my work and the (2)Owner's are usually the ones who install it. Almost Every vehicle I've seen them do leaves with cut marks in the paint where they had to trim it (it's a really tough film). At the very least look it over Thoughly before paying the bill so you have a chance to demand some new paint work Before you leave.

ya i had the 3M protection done to my 01 prelude, about 4 years ago. Realy miss that car, but somthin had to fund the 300zx... the kid was precut, and looked amazing, realy gave the car that high end expencive look... at the time the only dealers were bmw and mercadies ... factory, not aftermarket. Just the other day, i saw a White F350 with the protection film along the whole bottom of the truck, and like all White f350's it turned orange from the rusting brake dust that stained it... so buyer beware, dont get a product that can stain...

I did get the 3M protection. They took off the (too-small) factory 3M tape and put on some thicker stuff, made for headlights, right from the start of the fender flare back to the front of the wheel cut-out.

You can see the edges of the film, but it's an improvement on seeing a bunch of pock marks from stones.

Where can you buy the 3M film that is pre-cut, and year, and model specific?
