I have a '01 Crew Cab SB with the standard 4x4 package.  I purchased it two years ago and finally putting it to the test on the jeep trails of Colorado.  It's coming up 'short'.  It's scraping on, even, the little rocks.  I put on a set of Yokohama AT-245's last year, and a set of Rancho R5000 several months ago.  But, I am still bouncing around.  The suspension needs to be stiffer.  I do not want to install a lift kit.  I would like to just adds springs (front & back).
Any recommendations?  Can I expect any additional clearance with springs only?

what exactly do you mean by bouncing around, what are you most concerned about, the clearance or your ride comfort? As far as clearance you can gain some bit of additional clearance with springs/shackles, however...that takes care of the rear, to lift the front you could gain a max of 1.5-2" with torsion bar adjustments..however that is not really recommended if you are going to be doing a lot of offroading from my understanding because, number one you will need a realignment and just seems that it puts a lot of extra strain on those bars by doing so, especially punishing the suspension offroad. Now if you were going to SAS up front you could also add leafs up front then too. honestly tho...the cheapest way for you to gain some clearance, (tho it still has some drawbacks) would be a body lift, and not sure if you would be against that since you didn't want a lift kit...it wouldn't be a suspension lift, and you could get 2-3" out of that. someone else might have a better idea or be able to add to the pros and cons i've listed for some of these ideas. good luck

..

Frontyfan;

Nice Post... I agree...  Thanks

Eaglevu;

... I cranked up the front bars 5/8th and added one inch blocks to the rear and removed the rear bumper for added clearance. Built up a hitch to protect the rear. Later I installed BFG 31x10.50x 15s .  My Tire wear has been excelent but it may not apply to other Frontiers!.

... My Frontier has done Black Bear, Imogene, Engineer, Stony & The Lost Trail, Ophir, Hurricane, Corkscrew, California, and Cinnamon Passes. I would not do Poughkeepsie Gulch it would be sure to get sheet metal damage. But there are many other passes and trails it could do like Red Cone, Webster, Taylor and Pearl.

It is higher in the rear but that's where you need clearance.

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..
