Hey everyone, I'm looking for a canopy for my 2007 Frontier SE 4x4.  I'm interested in some road trips, and I have a bunch of gear that I need to keep somewhat secure, while still looking decent.  I've looked a few LEER canopies, but I was wondering if anyone has any comments or pros and cons they can fill me in on.  Cheers!

IAN

Ian, I have the same truck as you, and by the sounds of it, the same requirements for a cap.  There are a number of cab level options by Leer, Arrow and Raider.  Coming from a full size truck and seeing how my family could fill the box on camping trips, I really wanted a raised cap.

I liked Arrow's Mark 2 as it starts out cab height and then gains about 4" over the length of the box, looks streamlined.  Leer has the 180 which is 4" over-cab all the way, which I felt was a bit more versatile.  Also Leer appears a better quality. But they told me it was available for the King-cab long box only.  So I went to my Nissan dealer and took a bunch of box measurments from a King and Crew which were sitting side-by-side, and found them virtually identical, except the Crew's back window leans forward slightly more than the King's... only 3/8" over 18".  I ordered the Leer and should have it in 10 days or so.  I can let you know how it fits if you like.

..

... I made a spacer to put between the camper shell and the bed to raise it up to haul more camp gear. I used 2x4 lumber on the bed and made an aluminum bolt on extension for the rear glass frame of the shell. I could still use the same closing and locking system of the shell. The wife and I sleep in the truck when we go camping.

Sorry but I don't have a picture of the spacer.

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

There was a time when some people got rich buy providing a better product at a lower price. Now they get rich by ripping us off and paying off the politicians. Can you spell DEREGULATION

I'm going with a Leer 180. I will be using my truck to run an outfitter business, so I'll need something a little higher than the cab.  The one I'm getting fits the Gen2 CC.

I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!

PS: I'm new to this forum, and a loooooong time Toyota owner. My last Toyo was a Tacoma.  (Which I loved) But I've gotta say, I am really diggin the Fronty. So far, I love the interior, I love the look of the truck, and after dinking with the exhaust and engine, I am really pleased.  One thing in particular I like is how beefy the truck is. The rear gate, and the hood in particular are 'heavy'. Really solid construction on the truck... the Toyo felt light and cheap. I'm ot knocking Toyota in any way, I'm just drawing some observations. After adding a completely custom dual exhaust, a TB spacer, and a KN 77 kit, I am really excited about the sudden emergence of hidden power this truck has. Plus, I am now getting better gas mileage than my good friends Taco. He couldn't beleive it.  Good luck on finding your topper, give LEER a look.

I have had the Leer 180 on my truck for a couple of weeks now and I really like it - the look and the room it gives me.  I ordered it in white (for my red truck) so I can't be mistaken for an SUV!

Madmanhiker, what are the TB spacer and KN 77 kit?  What mods would have given you better mileage?  (Mileage is one thing I'm a little disappointed in.)
