Ok, here is the deal.  I have a 4.0L o5 crew cab 4x4 and i am looking for what muffler i should choose.  i know for what i drive its about sound not about performance.  I had a Flowmaster 50 series on my Toyota Tacoma I had before this and now i want to branch out and try a different muffler.

I love the way the 4.0L v6 sounds and I would like my truck to sound good, not so loud in the cab, but decent outside.  it is a Imported Truck, so to sound import is ok, but not ricey.  Flowmaster sounds good, any body have a magnaflow that i could get a soundclip?

I am thinking universal Magnaflow part number 12259. does anybody know the part number for the frontier cat back system?

i know its alot of basically rambeling about mufflers, and probally repeat post so please dont flame me, but its good to know what different mufflers sound like and to have somebody with them give us some sound clips.  borla, gibson, banks, magnaflow, dynomax, flowmaster anybody please sound clips.

sorry again, and lates.

You are right about mostly about the sound, on the mufflers, if you google mufflers or just take a peek in this section of the forums, you will see a post that I put up that has a paste out of some article that someone else had put in another forum, relating to a modified mustang that had high HP and was used as a test car for the purposes of seeing which mufflers produced what gains on the mufflers alone. They were all pretty similar in their gains, some varied a little and in the RPM ranges of the gains. One place to look at for sound clips is the manufacturer website, altough I haven't been impressed with the Gibson clip for my year range fronty (2001), it sounded a little garbled, but the do have some for the newer ones. Another alternative is to check video sharing sites like Youtube.com and some others for people who have posted their exhaust sound clips. Good luck.

If you want to check out a little bit of sound clips, there is a good one of a Gibson catback on an 05 fronty on this site, it also has dyno runs before and after to show you the difference with the exhaust added. scroll down to the bottom of the step by step process of the installation and you'll find a clip of the stock exhaust, then the gibson then a link to the dyno information.

if its a  slant - 6 4L, its gonna sound good  with just about any muffler you put on it.  me, on the other hand, had a supposed 40-series installed (cat back, and i say supposed because its not loud like other 40-series) and it  sounds like a  stock v6 fronty is fighting with a civic.

edit: its an 03 4-banger 5 spd.

i decided in going with a magnaflow 5x8x18. i just replaced the stock muffler and it sounds fXXXing sweet.  in a few weeks ill be getting rid of the resonator...it gives it a ricey sound at high rpm. but the over all sound, at cruzin speed on the freeway, is like a covette.  it really sounds nice. magnaflow all the way its the win.
