This mourning I drove my 2011 Nissan Frontier on roads with little snow.

Did I hurt my transfer case by doing this?

I drove in 4H at 40 MPH.

It didn't feel any different then it drove in 2 wheel drive.

What I meant to say is,

How much snow should be on the ground before using 4wheel High.

I dont want to mess up my Nissan Frontier.

Sinmce you have no differential action between the front and rear action , it is necessary for there to be ice, snow, mud or dirt/gravel to allow the wheels to slip a bit to make up for the lack of a a central diff.  If you can drive in 2WD, then stay in it.  When the roads are COVERED over in snow, the 4WD is appropriate.  If you drive on surfaces that don't allow a wheel to slip, you'll eventually cause something to break.

..

Wet roads should be OK but I don't do it even for slush. If the tire treads are on packed snow the 4WD will be good and help you go... BUT you can't stop any better than in 2WD!!!!!

It may let you climb an over pass but then you may not be able to stop on the other side!!!

Have a warm one.. with a marshmellow.. Don S..

We lived just north of Chicago with our first Frontier...went through the entire winter with it...never once needed 4x4...of course corners were a bit dramatic!
