The air bag light in the dash came on. When I turned the key switch on, the air bag light came on like usual. When I started the engine, the light blinked out and then came back on and is staying on al the time. What causes this?

1998 Frontier 4X4.

Did you recently have the trim around the radio removed(which includes the switch for the pass air bag)?  If you did  and the ignition was on, this will set a failure code.

The trim has not been off. The passenger side air bag light is working. It is the light near the speedometer. My Haynes book says to take it to a dealer, that the air bag has a problem and will not work. That is about all that my book has to say about it.
