Hi everyone, I was wondering if a failing timing belt can
make a loud rattling/buzzing sound. It seems to get
louder/worse with higher RPMs and is most noticeable around
the 2000-2200 range. The sound seemed to be coming from the
distributor and I had taken it to two mechanics who both
agreed. I then proceeded to replace the distributor with a
brand-new factory one however upon finishing the noise
persisted. Any ideas on what this could be? I have a long
drive ahead of me to get home (I'm currently staying with
family out of state) and I'm worried about possibly breaking
my timing belt on the way back. Any insight is appreciated,
thank you in advance!

If it were mine and Especially in Your Situation ~ I
would take it to the Nissan Service Dept. and let them
Diagnose what the problem is and then go from there,
Before heading out on the Open Road and Risk breaking
down and then haveing to get towed to the Nearest Nissan
Service Dept.

Even if they have to keep it to get the part's and repair
it, You can Rent a Car or Fly to your Destination and
then go back and pick it up after they get it repaired.
Sure it might cost more if you have to do that,, but
breaking down on the Open road and then going through the
Towing would be worse imo..

If the Engine is Rattleing it is best to get it Diagnosed
Correctly ASAP before Severe Engine Damage is done imo...

Try to get the Most Experienced Nissan Master Tech to Do
The Diagnosis, in an effort to get it Right the 1st Time
is my advice..

PS ~ I mentioned above Renting a Car or Flying, but it
might be cheaper takeing a Bus as another option for
getting back and forth to your destination, if they need
to keep your truck while it is getting repaired.

Also if the Diagnosis is too expensive, another option
would be to Trade it in While it is Still Running, and
putting that repair money on a New or Used Dependable
Truck or Car.
