Not sure if this is normal, but on my 2011 Frontier, everytime I shift into reverse, it makes a clunk/click sound.  On a cold start this sound will be feint when shifting from reverse to neutral but after warming up I never hear it again (only when shifting into reverse).

It may be due to the higher idle speed during cold
conditions. Try letting it warm up for a few minutes and
see if it still does it. How many miles on it? It most
likely is due to backlash in the rear diff.(normal). Try
having some one listen out side the vehicle as you
reproduce the sound.

I always let the engine warm up and wait for it to get to 1000 rpms before shifting.  But I still get the noise after driving and am idling at 600 rpm.  I'm not parking on an incline and am engaging the parking break in neutral before going to park.  It only has 6500 miles but am debating if it's serious enough that I should bring it back to the dealership asap or mention it the next time I bring it in for maintenance service.

Yeah that sounds like the backlash in the differential.
It won't make a difference if you have the parking brake
set or not. Basically is the gap between your ring gear
and pinion. The clunk you hear is when the pinion turns
the opposite direction and contacts the ring gear again.

A good way to check is put the vehicle in neutral, set
your parking brake, go into reverse and listen for the
clunk. Then put it into drive and listen and see if it
does it again.

It's noticeable shifting into reverse.  On a cold start it's very feint shifting into drive (almost couldn't hear it).  Guess that's what it could be.  Is this contact normal?

Some noise is fine. It's when you can start feeling the
truck jolt while in your seat that it's bad.
