Hello everyone. This is my first post on my first day. I have been looking at Frontiers for a while now, and found one that suits me perfectly. It's an 07 with 40k miles. Aside from some superficial rust on various underbody parts, everything looks just perfect - EXCEPT:
I could swear that the gas tank is brand new (it still has the sticker on it) and the drive shaft looks brand new as well - it doesn't show any wear like the bits on either end of it do.
Am I crazy? Is there a legitimate reason for this being so - like a recall or something? And what kind of "situation" could have destroyed both the tank and the shaft without affecting the ride at all.
Oh, one more small detail. The gap between the cab and the bed is about 1/16" or so (difference between key fitting and not) wider on the passenger side than the drivers side.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The u-joints are prone to fail and instead of replacing
them, someone may have replaced the drive shaft itself. The
gas tank is plastic, so no corrosion factor. Is it a Nissan
part # sticker on the tank? Might want to have someone look
it over very carefully due to the fitment concern.

Welcome to the org
Without crawling under it myself or seeing pics it's hard
to say. Going on a limb, MY GUESS would be this.
Sounds like someone went a little crazy off roading or
had something fly under the truck. It's easy to bend
drive shafts and puncture tanks if you're not careful on
the trails. Easiest way to get to the tank is to
actually pull the bed. And when it was being put back on
it wasn't put back on straight.
That's worst case scenario. Honestly though, if the gaps
are even from top to bottom, ie it's not narrower at one
end than the other, then you don't have much to worry
about.
But again I'll stress that I haven't seen it so I'm not
100% sure on anything.
