I bought a 2004 with the KA24de engine. I believe the  thermostat should open at 170 degrees. But what is the top limit in degrees should the engine be before I get concerned? Factory gauges don't help in determining how hot the engine is. Surely NISSAN has a perfered operating range and a danger limit?

Thanks.

Is it showing hot on the guage? Usually if the needle is
getting to the "H" mark there should be a concern.

When I bought the truck, it had electric cooling fans with a "thru the radiator" heat sensor. I have no idea how hot it is when it comes on or if it is too hot and I don't trust the factory gauge to be as accvurate as I'd like. I will put an after market gauge in it, but I'd like to know at what temperature it is too hot.

Thanks

With the newer vehicles, many of the stats are in the lower
hose area, making them open at lower temps as opposed to
being in the upper hose area. If you are above 195, I'd say
you are too hot. GM products can go over 200 w/o a concern
