I have 6600+ miles on this truck. The ABS, VDC and SLIP dash lights occasionally come on, stay on sometimes up to 200 miles or overnight, then go off for no apparent reason. When this happens, I can tell that the ABS and SLIP functions do not work while braking and accelerating on icy roads, so it's not just an indicator light failure. The problem seems to be linked to colder weather, as it's never happened above 10 F, but even in below-zero temps it's intermittent.

The dealer service rep said they probably couldn't diagnose or fix it unless it is in failure mode, so I'm waiting for it to happen again. Then I'll have to drop everything and rush over there, hoping it's still malfunctioning when I get there. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and could suggest a solution. It's warranty repair, and could be defined as a safety issue, so I'm considering pushing the issue harder with the dealer. (I did take a photo of the dash showing the engine running with the warning lights on, so they won't be able to deny it's happening.)  I just want to avoid numerous fruitless trips to the dealer if I can.

Thanks.

Ron.

I would think it would store a failure code, they should at
least scan it to see. The old systems had to be diagnosed
during the incident w/o turning off the ignition, but not
the new stuff.

Thanks, frontierguy.

Since all three functions are related to computer application of brakes, maybe that will narrow down the search for a solution. Guess I'll schedule an appointment and take it in. BTW, what are the job qualifications for a service rep? Do they have extensive mechanical training? Just wondering if I should ask to speak to the service manager or something.

Most service managers have never touched a wrench. I had a
manager for over 20 yrs. that had been a technician for
years, very knowledgeable and could do anything.

OK, here's the end (I hope) of this story. I took the truck in last Friday, they could read the ABS failure code, reset it, but couldn't find anything wrong beyond that. Over the weekend we got a cold snap, so I left it outside Sunday night. Sure enough, Monday morning I drove it half a block and all three dash lights came on. So off to the dealer I went, drove it into the garage and left it running so they could check it out. Half an hour later they tell me they're going to have to call the tech line because the ABS sensor is doing funny things, and they got me a rental car.  Long story short, it took a day to get an answer from the tech line, another day to get the part, and today (Thursday) I got my truck back.  They replaced the right front ABS sensor. Our forecast is for warmer weather starting tomorrow and odds are we won't see near-zero temps again this winter, so I might not know if it's permanently fixed until next winter.
