ok i took my truck in for computer diagnostics and there were no codes and the only thing the techs spotted were that the air filter was getting close to the end of it's life although he said it could go for another couple thousand miles ( i just assumed replace it with the K&N), and the throttle body and injectors needed cleaning.

well going by what the dude at nissan told me is that every few months i should run premium gas in a full tank w/ BG 44K cleaner to help keep carbon buildup from becoming a problem and keeping the system clean. so i did that tonight on my way home and will run that tank like that. however, my question is this product is supposed to work wonders on injectors as well, so should i bother taking it back to the mechanics and have them charge me over 100 dollars for something that will already be taken care of, unless they mean they are gonna use the special machine for the injectors. now with the throttle body i just assume take care of it myself. now my next question is, should i go ahead and take it off (it's the VG33E) or just use the carb cleaner(which i read is good for removing the crap from the intake manifold as well as the throttle body) or throttle body cleaner. any ideas or previous experience is appreciated. thanks

I have one better than BG44k... Sea Foam.  This is the only complete cleaner that can be used on the 3rd Gen Maxima (all it's components are very sensitive) and it does wonders.  There's no need to take it back to the dealer.  BUT, if you use it in your oil, you need to get an oil change within the first 500 miles (use it towards when you're due)  And you'll need to get another one right after that about a 1000 miles.

If you go to clean the TB and such, I would remove it.  It just makes it that much easier.  Also, you eliminate 2 risks.

1.) Putting too much cleaner in, and when you go to run it, it ignites and back fires out the intake
2.) you accidently get some cleaner on the MAF sensor and ruin it.  They make a special cleaner just for that.

You can use either Carb & Choke Cleaner, or Brakleen.  They're made out of the same ingredients, Brakleen just has one more added than C&C.  We honestly use Brakleen like water in our shop.  Also, if you have a old toothbrush you don't use anymore that would help as well.

Before I forget... then one drawback to Sea Foam is smoke... TONS of white smoke.

..

Howdy Gang;

… I have used 2 cycle OB oil whenever the expected fuel mileage isn’t up to par or the engine develops a miss and I put some in every once and a while for good measure. I would use it if any of my engines was pinging but in my case I use the oil often enough that my engines don’t get carbon build-up. Carbon deposits are a major cause of pre-ignition and other engine problems. The use of the oil does not cause any smoking out of the tail pipe.

... I have been posting about using 2 Cycle out board oil on the Internet for four years. I use Pennzoil brand because it’s fairly inexpensive at WalMart. Many friends have tried it. Many have been helped and seen very noticeable improvements. I have three 4x4s and a ’04 Sentra for the wife’s DD and use Pennzoil OB oil in all of them. It has not made an improvement (that we can notice) in our '99 4x4 4.7 Grand Cherokee Quadra Drive but it has always got very good mileage (taking into account the Power to weight ratio) and performance (it’s only good points) so maybe it‘s working well in it after all.

… Right now I have a very slight miss in my ‘99 4x4 Frontier only at WOT (Wide Open Throttle) and the Highway fuel mileage is down about one MPG and the oil has not helped. But the OB two Cycle oil has worked many many times.

…Here is a link to an article about it:

Have a good one and ;) CUL.. Don S..

yeah kcidmil, i'm very aware of sea foam have used that in my old 240SX and am VERY aware of the white smoke that soon follows and the need for oil change and the such but wasn't sure about using it in the fronty, only because that's BG44k is what the dealer recommended..of course they were the only ones who sold it around here as well except online ordering. I also put a K&N stock replacement filter in and cleaned the lower portion of the intake box with a damp rag as the fronty manual recommends and then put everything back. I just bought some air intake/throttle body cleaner that said it made by CC, i almost bought the carb cleaner, if i buy that instead what brand do you recommend. and by removing it, do you mean the trottle body as well as the intake manifold? remove the whole thing? or only the TB? my impressions from research i have done kind of indicated that i could just spray the carb cleaner or TB/intake cleaner into the intake through the throttle body butterfly after removing the air filter tube from the TB, so has sea foam caused any problems? i already put sea foam into my tank, is there any need to do an oil change after using the BG44K or just keep driving i used a tank of premium with the 44k like the dealer suggested i do every 3-4 months to flush everything. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

thx

I haven't used the Sea Foam in the Fronty.  The Dealer made a different recommendation to me here.  I know the service manager, we're good friends so I know the stuff works good.  But I don't remember what it was he said to use.

I recommend to take the TB off, as in the butterfly portion.  It makes for a more throrough cleaning.  But you can just spray it where it sits.  Just make sure to give it some time before starting the engine.
