I have the KA24E 4 cyl with an automatic which is mainly used around town. I have measured my city mileage at 22 mpg and highway 27 mpg which is great. Anyway I can boost the horsepower slightly for small investment by say 5 - 7 hp without decline in fuel mileage? K&N air filter, cold air intake (don't know if they make for this motor) etc?

Stay away from the K+N, they flow lots of air along with lots of dirt. OK for race engines where longevity and MAF are not an issue. Stick with the Genuine Nissan oil impregnated air filter.

I have also heard this about K&N. I am not sure of the particulates that would pass through the filter, but I can only assume more air means more dirt. As a Nissan Tech for 25 years I would have a tendency to follow your advice. Slight increases in horsepower and fuel mileage will not compensate for premature engine failure.
