I do much of my own maintenance. On my Nissan Frontier 2002 KA 4cyl w/ automatic I had a low rpm slight ping when starting out and then it would fade at road speed. A few weeks ago I changed a partially clogged pcv valve and replaced the gear oil in the non limited slip differential as routine maintenance. Immediately I noticed the ping was gone. I was not trying to remedy the ping but just doing the normal maintenance.

Question: Do you think changing the pvc would get rid on the ping?

For a long time, the pcv valve has been a non-maintenance item on Nissan vehicles. The pcv filter is required to be replaced periodically. I guess anything is possible, especially if it was plugged up.

Thanks. I also changed the pcv filter which is easy to change when you eventually find it (located in top of the air filter housing) The pcv is hard to change but it is doable and I finally mastered the process.
