I'm getting ready to change to syn. oil soon. I have a new truck with 3300 miles and want to make the switch. Any concerns?

No cocerns. Remember, lots of engines come with syn like Mobil 1 from the factory! I changed my 2007 Frontier over to Mobil 1 5W-30 at 1100 miles and have used it or the EP vrsion ever since. I now have 25,000 miles on it and burn no oil. However, kkep in mind that you are under warranty and need to keep to the factory recommended oil change intervals to maintain warrany coverage. Syn will give you better low temp starts and perhaps a bit better mileage. Mobil 1 will also keep your engine VERY clean internally.
Also, use a good filter like a Wix, a NAPA Gold (Wix), a Pure 1 or a Mobil 1. Pure ! or NAPA Gold have both worked very well on my truck.

Been using Amsoil 5w-30 full synthetic in my 08 Frontier since 3000 miles, change it once a year, filter every 3000. Now has 23000, no issues. Under normal conditions the interval is 25,000 or one year, severe conditions, 15000 or one year. If you use the Amsoil filter,it can stay in for the duration, I prefer to change the filter every 3k. I have been doing less than 11,000/yr. Do a search for Amsoil.< id="gwProxy" ="">< ="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" ="">< id="gwProxy" ="">< ="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" ="">

Hi, I just purchased a 2010 17k miles SE Crew Cab 4x2,
will be mainly driving city 90% and highway 10%. Not a lot
of towing. I just switched to Mobil 1. I was hoping to
rotate tires and do oil change every 9k miles, in the same
service appt.
1) Will this still be within Nissan's warranty, and be
covered? I have the ext 100k mile warranty.
2) How often should I change the filter?
Thanks in advance, Curt

I'm not sure how the warranty would be affected.

You should follow the OWNER"S MANUAL on oil change frequency while you are under warranty and keep receipts for what you purchase as well as a log book. I use a stitched log book where the pages cannot be removed. I attach all receipts for oil changes in the book where the oil change is recorded.

If I go by the OWNER'S MANUAL, It says to replace every 3K
miles and that kind of defeats most of the reason for
switching to Synthetic. I thought I should be able to at
least double the expected miles between oil changes,
assuming not much hard driving (towing, low temps,
etc..)... I R confused. I even called Nissan today; I
don't get a straight answer from either local Nissan or at
800 #......

If you have a warranty claim and don't follow the oil change schedule, you may have the claim denied. Your call. I have always used Mobil1 in all my vehicles and while under warranty, follow the owner's manual. I buy my oil at Wal-Mart. You can go up to 7000-75000 miles on oil if you do a lot of highway driving.
However, with modern oils there is NOTHING wrong wth conventiomanl SN oils at all. Why not use Mobil 5000 or Pennzoil Yellow Bottle 5W-30? They will do fine for you on a 3000-50000 mile oil change.

The only time a warranty repair will be questioned is if
the engine is sludged up due to lack of service and then
the customer will just try another dealer until they find
one that will do the repair regardless. Replaced a lot of
tensioner shoes and never questioned the service by the
customer.

Frontierguy & Boomer,
Thanks for the info. The more I talk to people, including
Nissan, I'm feeling I can go 8 or 9k without voiding
warranty. Boomer, how do you arrive at 7 to 7.5k miles?
I have a local friend to owns a truck service company. He
actually sent samples of synthetic oil at 7 and 10k miles
to a colleague who tested the oil for "cleanness" and even
at 10k the oil was as clean as could be. Not sure what
type of synthetic was used, but it caught my attention.
Thanks again for the information and opinions.
