2008 frontier with factory ignition immobilizer. Twice, I've been stranded by
the chip in the key going bad. Is there anyway to reset the chip in the key
other than taking it to the dealer? I'm ready to totally disable this system. I
don't want a key with a chip. Can it be done?

Are they Genuine Nissan keys-do you have an aftermarket alarm or remote start system. How do you get the vehicle started-there is a procedure in the owners manual I believe for starting with an unregistered key-I may be thinking of something else though!!!!!!????< id="gwProxy" ="">< ="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" ="">

Thanks, I looked in the book and figured out my problem. I have 4 Nissan
keys. The last time I took it in for a similar problem they reset the chips in
two of them. That disabled the two spare keys I had. When I tried (needed
to use) the spares, they would not work. Solution, according to the book,
take all keys in to have them reset with the same code. Now, I'm still
wondering if I can disable the ignition immobilizer. I really don't think I
need it or even trust the system. I would hate to be in tim-buc-2 and be
stranded because of a key chip that wouldn't work.

Get all the keys registered, you will be fine. There are a lot of other things to worry about on these newer vehicles than key chips.< id="gwProxy" ="">< ="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" ="">
