I just changed the valve cover gaskets in my stepfathers '00 3.3 Frontier.

Originally it started fine, but seemed to be running a bit rough. I had
trouble putting the back plugwire back on, so I disconnected it from the
distributor to see if that was why it was running rough.

The truck died, then when I started it again, it didn't turn over real smooth,
almost like the firing order was off (which I double checked) and now it runs
for about 10 seconds, then dies unless I keep it running with the throttle.

Any ideas?? Thanks in advance!!!

vacum lines a cracked vacum line has caused me to give a motor throttle to keep it runnin. Next check the plug wire you took off has the cooper ring is shaped right. Make sure the DIS cap does not have a crack in it. Befor you started on the valve cover gaskets how was it runnin and how many miles are on it.BTW what part of FL are u from I`m from central bout 15 miles from deland

The truck ran fine before I changed the gaskets, it has about 120K on the
clock.

I thought that I had maybe put the distributor in a tooth off because it
would kick back when you cranked it. Once it started it would idle at
about 1500RPM, but smoothly, then as the truck warmed up the idle
would drop and get rougher. then eventually the idle would start to hunt,
and it would die.

I went to TDC and reset the dist. as well as I could and now it's not
kicking back or anything, and turns over smoothly, but doesn't start at all.

I pulled the plug wires, and it IS sparking.

and I'm in Clearwater.

my valve cover gasket went out on my 01 extended cab as i was driving down the road. i noticed it because my whole truck started to shake really bad. well when i got the gasket changed and started the truck back up it was still shaking and running really bad. but it would still idle on its own, just very poorly. so i got the computer read and it said my 3rd spark plug wasnt firing. so i changed the plugs and the wiresand its ran great since then. im near jacksonville florida

Are you sure you are at TDC for cyl # 1 ???? Are all the vac lines reconnected correctly- don't forget the one on the back of the plenum for the fuel pressure regulator! Did you plug in the connectors at the very back/bottom of the plenum???< id="gwProxy" ="">< ="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" ="">
