Hello all. 

I am not getting the solenoid to engage on my starter (no click).  I checked voltage on the battery terminal, the conectors on the battery and at the starter.  Replaced the battery (as it was old and a little iffy).  I have power and can here the fuel pump.

I had a tough time getting a good reading from the starter terminals, but it looks like I am around 8 volts down there.  Probably dirty terminals. 

I can't clean up the terminals on the starter with it in the truck (not enough room) and the starter looks really rusty (as with everything else under this truck).  I am thinking that I should remove the starter, clean up the connections and test it out (replace if necisary)

Sooooo - removing the starter.  I see the 2 bolts at the nose cone.  I assume that this is all that holds in on there.  Once those bolts are out, how to I get the starter out of there.  It does not look like there is enough room to drop it down or up.

Bolts for the starter came out nice and easy (with the right combo or extension and socket length. 

I can't get the starter out though.  Starter seems too big for the hole - to dropit down.  It is out of it's mount just won't come down through and out. 

There must be a trick to getting it out (the right angle or something).  HELP!!

Thanks for the reply.  It is an automatic and the cooling lines are one of the bigger obsticles.  I need to get some better light under there and a better pair of goggles (rust keeps falling in my eyes and my current goggles are in bad shape).  I should be able to find the right angle.

What is the "center link" that you mentioned?  Easy to remove?

OK  -What does it take to remove that center link?  Too much snow on the ground to get under there right now.  Perhaps in a couple of days.

Is this something that I can tackle in my driveway?  Are there any instructions on this site that would tell me how to do it?

I crawled up under there for a few minutes ago to see what I would need  to get the center link off. 

I found the center link, but it does not look to be in the way of getting the starter motor out.  The center link is back slightly more than the hole under the starter. 

It looks like, if I can get the starter virtical I will be able to get it out.   I might have to figure out how to disconect the wires before getting it out of there.  They seem to be hampering my ability to get it facing up and down.  Problem is that there just is not much room to get a wrench in there. 

Thowing on the thermals and a new pair of goggles (got to keep the rust out of my eyes) in a few and will back out there wrestling with this thing.   It's cold out there.  lol
