 On 4X4 Frontier V6 2002.
FrontierGuy states sender is problem in another post but it would be a strange coincidence since I was barely rolling over some branches and one caught on the drive shaft and stalled motor.  WHen I went to re-start the pump was not whirring.  Haynes does not show location of pump tho I assume it is in the tank under the heavy metal shield.  Is the sender by the fuel pump?  Is this a coincidence or did I pull off one of the crank position sensors---which are also well protected by body armour.  Logic tells me I have torn some wire and no power is getting to the pump but I see no exposed wire.  Any direction would be great help since I am off road and need to repair there or get a tractor or other big 4X4 to pull me out.  Thanks much

Hours later and problem tracked down.  WHile a great deal of the electrical and fuel lines are protected, the system is far from foolproof.  My truck stalled out when some branches wrapped around the drive line.  At the same time a branch must have gotten up past the fuel tank armour and severed one of the electical lines to the fuel pump.
The line is just lying there on top of the tank.  Thankfully I had a friend with a tractor who was willing to go off road drag my Frontier into the garage.  Once inside it only took me an hour to track down the problem.  Moral is ----do not drive over thick green branches.  Riskier than boulders and rocks.

Nice find on your problem. If you haven't had the fuel sender recall done,I would certainly suggest it due to the problem of corrosion at the connector.

they have it on hold at the dealer. Now i have to drain the fuel tank which of
course I had JUST filled. Luckily one of the other cars is on empty. Not
looking forward to playing with gasoline. I might just call the dealer and ask
the shop time rate for the upgrade. Do you recall how long it took you,
Frontier Guy? WIth a hoist and the right tools I would think an hour-or no
more. Flat rate? Do shops have containers to off load the fuel an then
replace? THanks for your thoughts. WHile I was under there I replaced the
fuel filter. Cheap insurance.

..

I was at S&H Garage in Arlington Tx hangin' out and saw them lift the bed of a Chevy PU to install a new fuel pump rather than drop the tank. I don't know if they drained the tank before installing the pump.

Remember Gasoline doesn't burn... but the vapor explodes!!!

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

You have to ask yourself, why is the stock market surging upward while hundreds

of thousands are still losing jobs? It must be the change!

I remember long ago in the 70s I was on my way from San Fran to Eastern
Wash. to go to grad school when I saw my gas guage just plummet.
WHen I looked under my 62 Valiant I saw gas dripping from a small hole
in the tank. being a poor but resourceful student I pulled a sheet metal
screw from the body and cut a piece of leather from my belt and plugged
the hole. ( doncha just love the feel of gas running down the screwdriver
along your arm and puddling into your arm pit?! : - )
Anyway, next small town dropped the tank and took it into a shop with a
bunch of good old boys sitting and spitting and smoking. They fired up
the torch as I fled the building. They laughed and reminded me what you
did. Gas is no problem! IT's the vapors and they had stuck wet rags in
the tank inlet pipe. I guess that little bit of vapor coming out of the hole
did not scare them. More tomorrow after I talk the Nissan dealer/

Anywhere from 1.6 -1.9 hours depending on which state you are in(salt or non-salt) and if the tank itself needs to be replaced.
