Hey All,

Just got my '05 KC, and I've had the battery die twice while working on my stereo install. (OEM Nissan, original install, as far as I can tell). I have done lots of stereo work in other vehicles, and make sure that the interior lights are off, etc. and have never had issues with killing the battery.

After an hour or playing with the stereo (ignition on/off type of stuff, no headlights), the battery is too weak to start the truck! I meter the battery and it comes in ~ 11.99V and drops about .1V every few seconds. I slap the charger on it, and after 5-10 min, it fires up. I daily drive it as well, no problems with leaving it for 8 hours or so.

The terminals are clean and connections are tight (I've double and triple checked after the second no-start problem). I'm pretty convinced that the battery needs replacement, sooooooooo

What are the recommendations for a daily driven truck, as we are heading into winter here in Canuck-land. It gets cold... bitterly so, so something robust is what I'm looking for. I've run the Optima spiral cell batteries in my 300ZX's, but I found they have starting issues if left for a few days (and others have confirmed this too).

Any Recommendations?

Thanks,

Get a new battery..  Yours is basically at the end of its life.  Buy one swith lots of cold cranking amps but make sure it will fit in your truck.  If I remeber, our terminals are backwards from many batteries.  Take a good look at yours, draw a diagram of the battery posts and refer to it when buying a battery.  Good luck!!

Danny here 2 more things to add Boomer is dead right bout more cold cranking Amps also look at researve time on the battery. To the audio upgrades you might want to check into a compassator for your amp so you don`t have a constant strain on your charging system. BTW to boomer and vorpal is it snowing round your areas yet

Danny, no snow here in SE Pennsylvania but there were flurries a week ago or so in central PA.  Our long term forecast is for a cold and snowy winter so we will see.  Four wheel drive is always nice up here in the winter.

No snow here yet, but it's below freezing and threatening to. Should see some later this week. Thaks for the tips, I'll let you know what battery I get.
