I have a 2002 4x4 with 120000 miles and i get a knocking sound i from the rear end only when i let off the gas at around 45 mph and the give it gas again. I got the truck with 36000 miles on it but it just started. I know there is a recall on the abs in the rear but i dont know if that is it yet on not. Does anyone know what this might be?

Possible it could be the rear U-joint.

What do you have for a trans, auto 5spd? If it is a manual it could just be gear noise. I've had mine checked out for a similar issue and it's just gear noise, so I'm told.

mine is a auto.  i hope it is just noise but i feel it in the truck too. its like a little slam. but im sure its not my tranny, it shifts fine. someone told me that it might be the gears in the rear end going bad.

Danny here Go change your rear diff lube and than you can tell if gears are going bad. Also check your rear brake drums pull off the drum and look to see if theres gear lube you could have a beaaring going bad or a seal leaking. Remember with seal leaks is if lube leaks out dirt can come in
