Anyone with a 2nd generation XE have any issues so far with broken baffles in the catalytic converter? I've had this rattle since day one that occurs after I've run the truck ('07 XE) for a while, shut it off and then close either door about half an hour later. The rattle sounds like it's coming from the area of the cat and I've checked all the heat shields numerous times. It only does it once or twice and then goes away like whatever it is is settling back into place in the converter. That's why I'm beginning to suspect the innards of the converter. I also hear kind of a muffled rattling noise, on accleration, coming through the firewall, particularly when the engine is cold, and what sounds like a slight exhaust leak when the drivers window is down. Any ideas?

I occasionally get a sympathetic rattle at 2500-3000rpm on acceleration.  I believe it's the heat shield around the catalytic converter.  The Car Talk brothers mentioned this is a common problem and happens either when the vehicle is cold and goes away when it's warmed up, or the obverse, rattling when warm.  They suggested riveting a corner of the shield to nearby structure.  May, or may  not help.
