I'll get right to the point...This is for an '04 era truck.

Are 4 cyl and v6 std transmissions the same? If not, will a v6 trans bolt to the back of the 4 cyl? Are the transmissions different between the v6 2wd and 4wd? Basically I'm wanting to turn this truck into a serious rock crawler, with either 1 ton or rockwell 2.5 ton, full width/size solid axles and 44"+ tires. I'm not into switchin out the 4cyl I have, but I do want the absolute strongest transmission available. Thanks for any info you provide.

Btw, If this is the wrong forum for this question, I apologize. I put it here because this forum seems to get the most traffic. Mods move if needed. :D

I downloaded the owners manual, and judging by the the fluid capacities, each motor has a different trans. Or transmission pan at least.

KA24DE   4X2   4–1/4 pt

VG33E/VG33ER   4X2   5– 7/8 pt

VG33E/VG33ER   4X4  10– 3/4 pt

If a v6 trans will bolt to my 4cyl, then I'm set. If not, I guess I'd be lookin at swapping in the entire engine/transmission/transfercase from a v6 truck. Ugh. Alot of work.

yes its a lot of work to convert to 4x4 but unless you have a Desert runner or a Crew cab frontier your wasting your time sell it and buy a 4x4.

You may think Im coming off as a dick been there done that I have converted my truck to 4x4 to the tune of 3000.00 I am about to cut the IFS junk off and do a SAS which will be another 2500-3000.00 when its said and done

Best advice I could give is buy a Jeep an XJ or wrangler fix it up keep your frontier as a daily driver.

I don't think you're coming off as being a dik. Your reply is exactly what I would have said to the new guy asking these questions. That said, I am no stranger to fabrication, welding and building things. I'm a journeyman level welder and fabricator. 10+ years experience. I've had a fairly well built rigs in the past and know exactly what I'm getting myself into with this project. I want to build the Nissan just cause no one has one built like I want. Unique= good.

This is the lst rig I owned and built-

At one time it was a '76 Blazer.

When I get back from Iraq, I'm going to pick up a Chevy/GMC 4x4 with the Duramax diesel. That will be the daily driver, while the Nissan becomes the toy.

Now, can anyone help me with my transmission questions?

EDIT:

Sorry to say but your photos like1024x768 pixels are wider than screen size this is against the posting rules. This makes it unnecessarily difficult on those of us on dial-up and those that don’t like scrolling horizontally to see or read the posted items. Please reduce the sizes to less than 800 pixels wide Photos 640 pixels are fairly good except the very smallest of monitors.

when I get home tonight Ill look on the Fast system see if the bell housings have the same PN V6 vs 4Cyl. if they have the same PN then it should bolt right up   to answwer your question yes the transmissions are differant between 2wd and 4x4 you can not just bolt up the TX10 transfer case and be on your marry way I wish it was that simple the issue is the output shaft on the 2wd its longer/smaller dia. than the 4x4  now there has been some talk about being able to swap the out put shafts but that means tearing the trans down completely and to be honest thats a whole nother can of worms to open.
