I was wondering if anyone could give advice on where to start. My engine light came on and It threw 2 codes. P0328(this one came up twice) and P0171. The computer at auto zone gave me many options- For the p0328 it said 1. knock sensor defective 2-check connector to wiring sensor 3-knock or rattle in engine 4- low fuel pressure

The po171 read 1- mass airflow sensor 2- oxygen sensor 3-ignition misfire 4- fuel injector problem.

I don't even know where to start on this- the light has been on for 6 months- It came on and off for the first three and now it is steady. The truck has no symptoms.

I was looking for any type of insight - thanks

..

Jimijoe;

One thing that might cause all those things is carbon buildup in the engine. Have you heard a rattling sound while under power? If so it IS carbon build up. It can foul the EGR, plugs and injectors. High test Chevron with Tectron could help given time/miles. Read the thread in the link below:

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

I will try that for sure. It does rattle at the beginning of the gears when I am shifting. Thanks

P0171 is fuel system lean code - usually caused by the MAFS being out of parameters or contaminated from the use of a non nissan air filter. Genuine Nissan air filters are oil impregnated to filter out the fine dirt. Sometimes you can get away with cleaning the MAFS with some mild brake cleaner(not carb cleaner). P0328 is a knock sensor code -caused by a defective knock sensor and/or wiring, not caused by the engine rattling or knocking!!!!! The code does not appear because the engine knocks, it comes on because the knock sensor is not doing its job. I'm assuming this is a 4 cyl??

Where in NY are you located? I'm 25 miles west of Binghamton.

So I ran the sea foam exactly as directed in the other thread and it feels like I have a new truck. I only have 60k on her but I guess there was plenty of build up. Runs like new and the engine light just went out. That stuff rules.

Frontier Guy- I grew up in Endicott just outside of Binghamton. Now i live out in Columbus OH.
