Hi everyone,

I've got a 2000 V6 Frontier that just passed 108000 miles.  I tackled the timing belt myself a couple months ago.  Everything went pretty good, surprisingly.  I replaced the timing belt, tensioner, water pump, camshaft/crankshaft seals, spark plugs, and drive belts with no bolts leftover and the thing cranked fine on the first try.  i can upload pictures if anyone is getting ready to do their timing belt.

At least I thought everything went well.  After 200 miles on the new belt, my service engine soon light came on.  I pulled the trouble codes and there were two - P0325 and P0110, the knock sensor on cylinder 1 and the Intake Air Temperature sensor.  thinking maybe I just tripped them tearing everything apart, I cleared the codes and kept driving.  Now, about 1000 miles later, they came back on, same codes, and I'm not sure what to do.

I don't know how seriously to take it.  I doubt my knock sensor and IAT sensor just happened to go bad after my timing belt replacement.  But then if it was just a glitch, the engine light shouldn't have come back on after i cleared the codes the first time.  But why those two codes?  it seems like they are unrelated to each other.

My truck runs and feels great.  No knocking, no abnormal engine noise or vibration.  My mileage went from about 17.5 MPG before the operation to 18.5 afterwards (both within my normal range).  I've checked and doubled checked the wiring harness and everything is hooked up fine.

If there is anyone on here that could give me some good advice, i'd really appreciate it.  should i take the codes seriously?  what should I do about them?

I'm thinking about tackling the timing belt job on my 2000 3.3 V6 4x4 so if you would post pics I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,

JL

Well first of all, with all Nissans the knock sensor code by itself will not cause a
check engine light. The knock sensor very well could have been bad 30,000 miles ago and you may not have know anything. The IAT sensor could just have gone bad. If it was a wiring issue it really should have set off the check engine light earlier. You may just need a mass air flow sensor. If the the sensor is bad and the vehicle is running lean then you would get slighty better gas mileage. haha. I think you probably do need both and you just never knew you needed a knock sensor until you checked the codes. let me know what ya found.

Have a good one and se you later… Don S..

It would be nice if our members would add their vehicle information to their signature (similar to mine) plus add their City and State . A member in the same town might be willing to drop by and help you with a problem. Or drink all your beer!
