Welcome to the group.
High mileage, infrequent oil-filter changes,over heating, low oil levels and low viscosity oils can cause hydraulic lifters to drain. Wear and poor cam to valve adjustment could be a problem.
... Most engine wear happens at start-up. A pre-oiling system helps prevent these conditions.
