 have a Navara 2003 STR d22

The transfer case get's very hot when driving.

Did a long trip pulling a van and noticed it. When i put the air con on cool's right down to normal temp.

I only notice when i start the trip but it does get hot around town.

Only had car for a few months first time I had a 4WD also.

My thought's is that it the heat from motor being push back to ward's firewall.

thanks for any help

regards

..

raybags;

Welcome to the group!

... Manual transmission, transfer case gears/chains and differential gears have heat from friction because the gears rub each other. The heavier the load the more heat. These units are cooled by the oil spinning in the case and transmitting the heat from the gears to the case shell. Make sure you gears have the correct type of oil and the roper amount.

NOTE: Over filling can blow out seals..

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

At my age my learning curve has degraded to a straight line… <snif> <snif>

Don

thanks for your reply. I will change the oil and see if that changes the temperature. And make sure not too over fill it.

Doesn't help thing with the aussie Summer now in full swing.

regards Ray
