I own a 1998 Nissan Frontier 5 speed with aprox. 160,000 miles. Recentley while driving, The engine was almost screaming as if I was pulling 7-8k rpm's. There is no loss of power, not pulling excessive rpm's, no problems shifting and no noises coming from the clutch. Come to think of it, this noise mimics a cold engine.

If the truck is sitting still while in neutral, I can rev the engine and still hear the sound.

Any ideas where I should start to fix this? Let me know if I am not being detailed enough.

..

jengels2002;

Welcome to the group!

At that mileage It could be anything. Under the hood It could be bearings in the alternator, water pump, or any of the belt driven peripherals or the belt it‘s self. Check the timing chain.

Jack up the rear wheels and check all the stuff that rotates.

As an ex-service writer I can tell you it’s not easy to do over the Internet.

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

Laws such as the use of corn ethanol are driving up the cost of living (have you been to the grocery store lately) without driving up wages. This equates to a lower standard of living (but not in China) thanks to Agro-lobbyists and corrupt and ill-informed lawmakers.
