There is a clicking noise at low speeds under 10 mph when accelerating or slowing down.  It may be from the transfer case as the noise goes away when in 4x4 mode. The clicking noise starts out slowly in Drive and gets faster as speed goes from 0 to 10 mph.  It disappears after 10 mph. Does anybody know what could be the cause?

I have a 4x2 SE crew cab, 2005 model.  I am getting a squeeking/clicking as well.  Seems to be more in the front end though, passenger side.  I would be interested in hearing thoughts here as well.

Seems to be more of an acceleration as the first post says, but doesn't go away unless the gas pedal is released.

Are there any greasing points on the front end?

..

Sorry but some of these problems are hard to diagnose on site let alone over the Internet. Keep checking back... someone may pop up with a clue.

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

My truck did that and I realized it was just loose center caps on the wheels.  Those little metal rings don't hold their shape very well so at lower speeds the caps were loose and jostled around making a clicking noise.  Once the trucks sped up more it would hold the cap in place by the centrifugal forces.

Otherwise... a click noise could be a lot of things... I'd lift the front end off the ground with a jack and sping the tires manually.  See if it still makes the same noise when the tire spins freely or if it's something that clicks as the vehicle moves.

Ends up they have to replace my drive train.  Haven't heard the specifics on the exact situation, but I will let everyone know in case this is a problem for them.

For me it doesn't matter, still under warranty.  So they can make it easy on themselves and replace the whole thing I guess.  Just hope it really is what they are saying.
