I have an 06 LE Crew cab with the short bed.  I made the mistake of backing into an I-beam with my tailgate down and bent both of the hinges.  Initially it was fine, but it causes the tailgate to rub on the rear bumper and it is wearing away the paint.  I got new hinges, but I can't loosen the Torx screws that are holding the truck body piece of the hinge.  I am afraid to really reef on it for fear of stripping out the Torx heads.  The replacement hinges came unpainted and without screws.  I spray galvanized the new hinges but now I can't get the old hinges out.  Any Help?

..

kthebear;

Might try hitting the bolt with a hammer (BFH) without damaging the torax hole then backing it out . If that doesn’t work suck up to a body shop worker... maybe a ten dollar bill will loosen it up.

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

It would be nice if our members would add their vehicle information to their signature (similar to mine) plus add their City and State . A member in the same town might be willing to drop by and help you with a problem. Or drink all your beer!

I also have an 06 shorty and a bent tailgate hinge that allowed the tailgate to rub on the bumper.  I took the tailgate off and used a piece of 2x2 and a GBFH and whacked the hinges back into shape.  No more rubbing.
