I was just wondering if I am the only one that had trouble with the automatic transmission. I have a 2005 Frontier King Cab 4x4 that needed a new transmission and rear end. The truck has over 50k miles on it. They claimed that the tranny has a cooler built into the radiator and that system was compromised, which in turn, put radiator fluid into the tranny, causing the tranny to go bad. The rear end had a bad clunk when I shifted out of park and needed replaced as well.

I am currently faced with another repair involving the emmissions. This one is not covered under any warranty and is around $300. I am starting to get cold feet with this truck. I tend to keep vehicles for at least 8-10 years and pack on a lot of miles in that time. With this short track record, I wonder if I should be trading this in for something else.

..

bckazoo;

Sorry to hear of the problems.

... With the pressure cap on the radiator the pressure could be higher than the internal transmission cooler core in the radiator. If that little core gets a leak coolant will get into the transmission.

... It also possible for transmissions to ingest water in deep water conditions I.e. river crossings, floods and boat ramps. In these cases a hot transmission is suddenly cooled by cold water and water is sucked in at the seals and/or breather. This also happens to many rear differentials with hardened grease in the breather vent. Many 4x4s have snorkel tubes on their axle vents..

Enjoy the ride! And

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

It would be nice if our members would add their vehicle information to their signature (similar to mine) plus add their City and State . A member in the same town might be willing to drop by and help you with a problem.
