I've had my 98 Frontier 4x4 2.4L 4 cyl for two years now with 105k miles.  It is still very drivable but these two things bothers me and would like your thought on how to go about it.  There is no Check Engine light on.

1.  In the morning and expecially after rain, my car bucks,jerks & missed at lower rpm and will not drive unless I floor it to high rpm > 3k.  It fixes it self after about 5-10 minutes of driving.  What could it be.

2.  There is a medium pitch whining noise coming from the engine (kind of toward the front).  I replaced all the belts and the idler pullies seemed to be fine.  I call the dealer and they said that this enging timing chain do not need replaced until about 250 -300k miles.

Let me know what you guys think.  THANKS....

gunner;

Welcome to the group…

The First thing I’d do about the rough running is fill the tank with ‘high test’ Chevron gasoline or add some Chevron Techroline the tank. This will clean up the plugs and clean carbon out of the engine after a few days of driving.

You might try using a long rod or dowel, holding it to your ear and touching various parts of the engine to locate the area of the noise. Be careful to avoid the touching of the fan or belts… it will do more than make noise!…

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

It would be nice if our members would add their vehicle information to their signature (similar to mine) plus add their City and State . A member in the same town might be willing to drop by and help you with a problem.

Thanks for the respond so far.  The car idles perfect.  It is bucking/jerky only when you push the gas in gear and only when it has collected moisture.  I've already use seafoam in the tank and sparkplugs looks great.  I'm thinking it is probably the cap/wires.  Anymore suggestions....
