Greetings all. My 00 Crew (3.3L) with 92K lit the check engine light so I had it checked at a local reputable garage. Was told knock sensor and Nissan has a TSB about corrosion problems with a sub harness. Was quoted $700 to change the sensor and maybe the harness. YIKES. Is this something I can change myself? (got decent skills) I found the link for the FSM, waiting on the email conformation.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The knock sensor alone will not throw the Check engine light most if not all 3.3 motors Frontier or Xterra have bad knock sensors not a big deal unless you have the S/C motor. The sensor is located under the lower intake manifold passenger side so to get to it you need to remove the upper and lower intakes or if you do a little searching on www.nissanoffroad.net there have been a few who have relocted the sensor using a Nissan maximum harness and sensor.

So the check engine light is most likely because of connector problems in the harness as is apparently noted in the TSB? They reset it and it came back on. Why is the knock sensor not a big deal?

We were thinking of trading up so it's gotta be fixed.
