I have a '01 Frontier Crew Cab 4x4 XE with around 105k on it.  I like everything about the truck except the @@#$$ air conditioner.  I bought the truck in late '02 with around 28k on it.  About a year later, one day the A/C just quit blowing cold air.  I took it to a trustworthy place and they couldn't find a leak but felt that it must be the evaporator core and that it was going to be around $500 to fix. About this same time a friend directed me to another repair place right after I had gone to Pep Boys and bought a new evaporator core (figured I could save some $ on parts markup).  The 2nd place put in the evaporator core but the mechanic didn't think that was the problem.  He replaced the high-pressure hose and the A/C was awesome til last fall when it just quit blowing cold air.  I've taken it back twice now and he recharges the system and can't detect a leak but the refridgerant is gone in two days!  What the @#$% is wrong with this A/C??  This is a black truck and I live in Oklahoma and haul two little kids around (hence the 105k miles).  I NEED a functioning A/C!!!  Has anyone else had this issue and if so what was the source of the problem? Thanks!

There are so many points for the referigerant to escape.  It could very well be leaking in the AC pump internally, though usually you get an oil mess.  Plus with so many points that are hard to get a tester to, you'll be scratching your head.

I never found Nissan's truck AC to be all that great anyway.

Too get the best possible track down.  Take your grill off, and remove your glove box.  This will allow almost unrestricted access to the condensor and evaporator.  Also... are they using a Sniffer, or dye tester?  Sniffers won't detect anything if they're set too low.

I've got a 2000 CC and the hose coming off of the compressor was leaking at the place that the hose is crimp onto the metal fitting...I notice it because I could see oil at that fitting...That hose goes from the compressor to the firewall and then mates to another hose with a screwed connection....Check out all of the crimped hose fittings..

I've had to replace the Hi pressure hose on my 2003 Frontier twice in the 4 1/2 years I've had it.  Both times, the hose lasted about a year and 9 months or so.  Both times I bought a new hose at the dealer for $100 a pop, evacuated the system and re-charged it with the help of my brother who's an A/C repairman.

If you've got access to someone with a vacuum pump you might also try pulling a vacuum and see if it will hold it.  If it doesn't you definitely have a leak somewhere.  If not, then it might be something else like a bad compressor, thermo coupler, etc.
