My truck has 300 miles and it has occasional tight steering in 2WD. it is so tight that sometimes i have to stop and back up to make a regular turn. does anybody know what might be causing this?

It's a new truck, keep driving around in it.  It may be like anything else and needs to be loosened up

Yeah, I agree with him. It should loosen up, but if it doesn't, you can always
take it back to the dealer and get them to fix it...

Sounds like you might want to check out the Post about the steering column problem on the page 1 under Problems/Technical
