I have a 2000 Frontier and want to hook up a small trailer.  Have a trailer with 4 point plug.  Bought a T connector with converter harness and installed.  Worked fine first try, then no lights.  Test indicated ground fault at the truck.  Trailer lights fine.  Told I need relays at the fuse box because I have amber turn lights.  Anyone else have this problem and what's the fix?

If you want, check this out, plug a play operation.

They also have 6 or 7 pole adaptor kits at the bottom if you need it.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that's just like the one I installed.  Worked great first time lights on, but light out after.  Testing indicated ground fault at the truck side.

There should be a wire coming off the harness block that was supposed to be attached to ground.  Was all the paint removed from the mounting point?

i have a 2000 desert runner with a similar trailer light problem. a new wiring harness on the truck and ground strap to the truck frame didn't resolve problem.  if i turn truck headlights on the trailer lights do nothing. if i turn off the headlights and put on the brakes the trailers break lights are very dim. with the headlights off the turn signals are very dim too. i replaced the trailer lights with LED lights and every thing worked for about an hour, but then had the same problems as before except that the trailer lights were much brighter than the stock (non LED) lights. probably because they draw less power?-any suggestions?

I have a 2001 4X4 that I installed a trailer harness on. The trailer lights did not work properly, with headlights off they seemed to work better, with lights on the turn signals and brake lights did not work properly. I installed a ground wire from the body to the frame of the Frontier and now lights work perfect. To check this out I hooked jumper cable from trailer ground directly to negative battery post and the lights worked so I than installed ground from frame to body of truck.

I tried "smkonwatr"s test suggestion and everything worked.  My final fix was to run a jumper wire between the negative battery post and  the frame, where I'd drilled a new hole to connect the other end of the jumper. Just be careful about routing the new jumper wire to keep it from being damaged by chaffing, heat, etc. I think my truck lost it's ground from rust and/or corrosion? For some unexplainable reason there seems to be alot of it throughout the vehicle, even though it only has 75K miles on it?
