When I bought my 2011 Frontier SV 4x4, I told the salesman I needed a truck to tow my 800 lb trailer and 4000 lb boat. I just spent $1300 on the trailer getting it road ready. I went to pick up the boat and trailer, the mechanic refused to hook it up, said the truck isn't big enough and I'll get killed. I asked the sales manager at Nissan and he told me it will tow and stop it no problem. The service manager at Nissan said not to do it, too dangerous, should have bought a Titan. I have new electric surge brakes on the trailer. Anyone have experience towing a 4800 lb boat and trailer combo with the 2011 Frontier SV 4x4, it has the tow package.

Due to a lack of response on this issue by Nissan at the local level and national level, I will cannot recommend Nissan. It seems that they just want to push vehicles out the door. Customer service and regard for the custmer do not exist.

Hello,
I also have have a 2011 frontier SV 4x4,v-6,auto tow-package,I took delivery on 7/9/11,I like it.I went from a GMC C1500 Sierra SLE,so I'm still adjusting.
My owners manual plainly reads I can tow 6300LBs,the
manual and common sense says anything over the trucks
weight(4100)you need brakes on your load.2 weekends ago
I had 1300 miles(manual says no heavy load till after 1200)
so I hooked up to my broinlaw 22 nautic star w/yamaha e-tec
250(fast)aluminum tandem axle trailor.I googled the weight
and came up with around 3500lbs add 500 for batteries gas, coolers, etc I figured 4000lbs,+/- 10%,oh,no trailor brakes.Perfect weather, daytime towed it 15 miles eachway, lots of hills, stop signs and traffic, ambient temp 85 f.I could tell it was back there, especially up steep grades,no problems at all, brakes were fine I even had a semi-close call with a idiot running stop sign and hit brakes hard at 45 mph and Truck stopped great.I've towed lots of loads with various vehicles, some way overloaded,That was back in my younger days.4000lbs was not even close to overloading truck.Let me know if you want to talk about it.Towing 6300lbs?I'm not sure,5000lbs,yes any questions let me know

Frank,
I just bought a 2008 Frontier SE 4.0 liter Crew Cab this past March. It states the tow capacity is 6300 lbs. For Vacation this year, I bought a 1985 Travel trailer to tow behind it. The weight of the trailer according to the tags is 5850 lbs fully loaded. We traveled to 10 western states, going over the rockies, to crater lake Oregon, all through Montana, Washington, Utah, South Dakota, Wyoming. While the uphill parts was all the truck could handle (40 Mph at 4800 rpm, 2nd gear) the Frontier handled very well and I was happy with the overall performance of the truck. It puilled true, and went everywhere I needed it to. The Mileage did SUCK- 200 miles on a tank. (about 10 mpg), but when you are towing, that is to be expected.

Drewinca,
I have to admire you hauling a camper across the western rockies, not pulling trailer with the frontier,I'd do it to,but spending all that time with the family(lol). The trucks are tough,it's to bad a few nissan sales people
do not know the capabilities of their products.Rhweir should have known the power and recommended towing info before he bought it,maybe that's just me.Most trucks are underated on their towing I believe, for safety, you don't want a truck that can tow 8000lbs but it breaks axles, transmission, gears, etc at 8002lbs,does that logic make sense. Also, anyone that refuses to turn over my property when I request it,meaning I owe them no money,he will have to be holding a gun on me,and it better be loaded, you know what I mean.
back to towing ,your testimonial gives me some peace of mind,I had no problems at 4000lbs,I could've went as fast as I wanted, plenty of power.I've had several trucks,C1500's,S10,F150,and a jimmy,my nissan has the best brakes and handling of all my previous trucks,no fade and just simply great brakes. This winter I'll find out the 4x4 capabilities, just a little fun,I
will not tear it up though.did you have brakes on camper,I'm sure it did.

Yes, I did know the towing capacity. Since the purchase, I learned there is more to towing than just the towing capacity in the owners manual. The salesman who sold it to me did not ever recommend a Titan for my size boat/ trailer which I stated to him several times. He was focused on moving that particular truck. I didn't suspect a problem until I took the truck in for routine servicing and the service manager told me I should have bought a Titan and laughed at the thought of towing a 4800lb load with the Frontier. My boat mechanic said he refused to hook up the refurbished trailer to it shortly thereafter. He said I could tow it but not control it due to the size/weight ot the Frontier. So, I had a service manager saying don't do it, a mechanic saying don't do it, and a local sales manager saying do it. So, I checked with another service manager at a different location. At first, he said no. But then, he took the time to research all the info and said it was possible but advised against long hauls. I also checked up on it and came up with this:
|
|
|
|
max gross comb wt rating | 11135 | GVW |
|
| 5185 | Max Towing |
| 5950 | Excess Load
Capacity | 1065 | max tongue
load |
| 610
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
I'll give it a go locally, but not over long distances as I had hoped. The local dealer was useless, the national Nissan info line totally ignorant. The other dealership's service manager was great. I'm going there for service and my next Nissan if I buy another.

Rhweir,
rhweir should've known power and......My sincerest
apologies,I meant no disrespect. That was just me typing
without being considerate of others.Thank you for calling
me on it,I hate being an ass sometimes.
The nissan people I dealt with were knowledgeable and
open.I can see (after rereading your post)how the doubt was planted when you were told by that many people, they should know better. That being said, your truck doesn't know how long or short your trip is,it just wants gas and necessary maintenance, your 1500 lbs under tow limit, with new trailer brakes.I would tow wherever I wanted or needed to,you'll
know soon enough if truck can handle it.Once again,my apologies for being rude, good luck and God be with you.
Sincerely,Frank
