I have a question...I have a 2002 Frontier xe 2.4l. I need to tow
a small trailer about 150 miles, the dry wieght is 1750lbs. I was
going through my owners manual and the weight max is 3001lbs. I
should be good as far as not exceeding the weight, but wanted to know
the capisity of the bumper hitch. I was going to attach the tow
ball to the hole provided. I would like to avoid buying a class 3
hitch. I looked under the body and the bumper seems to attach to
the frame with some pretty good support, but don't want to pull off the
bumper. This is probably only a one time move and the investment
of a cass 3 hitch seems a little out of my range for one move. I
have looked through the manual for a weight restriction on the bumper
but didn't find anything(although on the bumper it states look in the
manual for restrictions). I have a set of air bags already
installed, which should help...is this doable or do I need a larger tow
hitch. O ya, what a great forum!! Thanks

I have seen several times the tongue weight limit stamped into the bumper around where the ball mounts. As far as the trailer weight you should be fine.Just try and determine your tongue weight.I think 200 lbs should be ok.

Hey thanks for the reply! The
tounge weight allowed is max 300lbs...I found that in the manual it
wasn't stamped on the bumper. I will try and find out the tounge
weight of trailer... wouldn't you think that since the trailer weight
is~ 1/2 of the max load for the truck(3001lbs), that the trailer would
have less then the max tounge weight also(300lbs) all things
proportional??? Anyway thanks for the reply, I would hate to see
the bumper fall off after loading it. If I had a reason for
towing all the time, I would of course buy another hitch, but this is a
one time thing...just dont want to turn it into a one time
nightmare. Also any ideas for the best wiring harness to go with
this truck...is there a plug and play one available through a auto
store or something?Thanks

I believe the major auto parts stores should have a plug and play wiring kit.I put on on a Dodge I had once and it was a very simple install. Tongue weight is affected by how the load is placed. To far in front of the axle and you could have a issue. Now if the trailer is empty (you didn't mention what you were hauling) you're fine. Hope this helps.
