I heard that I have to keep the car below 60mph and below 4000rpm for the first 3000 miles!  Does anybody know anything about this? Also, should I have the oil changed right away?

..

skogen1260;

Welcome to the Frontier group!

... IMHO Highway cruising while continually gently changing speed and remaining well under 4000 RPM. In the old days they used to use a no detergent break in oil for the first 500 miles. I don’t think they do that any more but doing the first oil change is not a bad idea in my estimation.

... The oil filter is an item that is very important to engine life as is running the engine at the temperature that it and the oil was designed for. There have been tests on various brands of oil filters that say Wix and Purolator made filters are the best. I use the stock Nissan truck filter and save the old ones to back up my extended warrantee. I use Wally-World Super Tech full synthetic 10W-30 that is rumored to the same as Pennzoil full synthetic. I don't carry heavy loads. I change the oil and filter at 4,000 miles and the AT at 30,000.

... I let the engine warm up at least a minute before putting it in gear then drive gently for a couple for miles before laying rubber! Below 40 degrees I let it warm up several minutes.

Have a good one, and Carry on with the insanity.. Don S..

I waited in mine until I hit 1000 miles and changed the oil - straight to Mobile 1 Synthetic 10/30 with a K&N Filter.  I kept having that real rapid start up knock - so I went back to Nissan with it.  They said there filter wont do it.  Ever since then I have used Nissan.  I still get it every now and then, but only after it sits for a few days.

JFordBronco;

OUCH!

.... What brand oil filter were you using?

It sounds like the filter did not have an anti drain back valve (some don't) or it was leaking. I waited til 10,000 miles to switch to synthetic.
