Your speedo will be slightly off, and any warranty you have is gone.

The dealer looks as it this way. Your speedometer has changed, with the slightly larger tire, you now are going just a little bit faster than what your speedometer says.
This also effects your recorded mileage, making it gain miles slower. And with your mileage effected, they will not honor any warranties.
There's not much a tire size change, but if the dealer happens to take a close look, you'll hate yourself.

sorry, they cant void your warranty over a tire size change. doesnt matter how it affects the milage or speed. if a problem presents itself they have to prove that the tires did the damage and they cant. just changing tire size will affect those things but that is something beyond there control. because then you could claim you had no idea when you bought new tires the tire place put larger size tires on your truck. in order for them not to cover that it had better be in writing and it isnt. also 98-99% of speedo's or incorrect from the factory. it is reported by every car tester in every test on how far off it is. car and driver used to list it in there test. i dont know if they still do or not. for example my 1994 chevy camaro z28 from the factory the speedo was off 2mph at 65mph. when i had the cruse set at 65 i was actualy running 63. and i even had a police officer friend prove this one night. on the other end the 1989 fo*d mustang gt my dad had, at 65 mph the speedo was off 3 mph from the factory at 65 he was actualy running 68 which he was stopped for, luckly by a friend that informed him of this and found the same in the pages of an old car and driver mag. there is no way for a manufacturer to correctuly adjust every cars speedo to be exact at every speed. if a stealership told me they wouldnt fix my truck because i had larger tires they would have a law suit filed with in 24 hours. this goes along with an after market exhaust voiding your warranty, it just isnt true. it will void any warranty that your factory exhaust had but has nothing to do with the rest of the car. having friends that work at stealerships has its advantages. i asked one of them and was told "unless we can prove that an aftermarket part did the damage we have to repair it under warranty. we dont have time, money, or equipment to prove it so it gets fixed." he also said that they have never refused to fix somthing under warrenty unless it was obvious what caused it. he said one thing that stuck out in his memory was a kid came in with a 99 1500 crew cab that was lifted with 40" tires and the kid had broken an axle shaft. they did not fix that under warranty. and told the kid that they wouldnt cover any axle damage. but everything else was still covered.

Vq if you change your going from a 30.6x10.4 to a 31.6x10.4(in general. to get the exact numbers check out the makers website.) your speedo at 55mph you will actualy be going 56.8 and at 65 you will really be going 67.1 so you will need to adjust your driving habits a little. here is a website that will help you figure out a lot of info. http://www.tyres1.com/tech_calcs.html

And why do you think they didn't cover the warranty? Easy to prove with 40s, but none the less. If a dealership doesn't want to cover it, they'll spend the time and money to prove it. They might not notice a different tire size when doing something with the engine. But have a susnpension or drivetrain issue, and they take a look at the different tire size, YOU ARE SCREWED. And claiming you didn't know won't help. All vehicles manfuactured today have the tire size and pressure on a door sticker or glove box sticker, and manual. 95% of tire shops can easily look up the correct tire size.

doesnt matter what tire you run they still have to prove that they caused the problem. in the case of the guy with the truck, he could have fought it and then the stealership would have to prove it. the guy just didnt know he could fight it. helps to know the rules before you play the game. the tires actualy didnt cause the failure the guy ran off the road and hit a curb, the tires just contrubited to it.

My new 2006 LE speedometer already reads 3 mph fast when compared to my
Garmin 2610 GPS unit! An indicated 70 is really only 67 mph!

as far as changing out tires/wheels --- thought warranty only plays a role in transmission, engine, etc.... maybe the only thing i can think of that might play an issue is suspension and that type of stuff...
i just recently went up in wheel size for my rig...went to 20's and to some street type tires...supposedly their all terrain but they look like performance tires; man i didnt even think about warranty issues....oh well.
