The new thing aholes are doing in my area is stealing tailgates. On my '07 Frontier, I removed mine to see how much time it took. It took me less then 15 seconds to take it off. Granted locking will not keep some one from stealing it. But  it does slow them down enough maybe to move on to the next one.

Yep, when I picked up my truck in August the sales guy was pretty adamant I lock the tailgate at all times as theft of this item is pretty common. He said a new one is about $800 Cdn.

Hey, thanks for the advice. It was the first thing I did when I got the new truck home. And nobody at the dealer advised me to lock it - rather, I passed your advice on to them. Smart move.

I know a long time ago people used to either swap the hinges or put hose clamps around them. Has anyone tried this?

Thanks, good advise !! I've also heard of all four rims & tires being stolen too. Probly should get a set of locking lug nuts !!!

I keep mine locked all the time - I also have an Extang Tri-Fold cover over it
which makes it like a locked trunk
