Was wondering if a coventional/universal/generic antenna cable can be spliced to an OEM antenna cable.

Don't have one right now,and the hole in the cowl behind hood is present.Found a couple in the junkyard on Exterras. But their cable "dissapears" up behind the heater/ducting under the glove box-rendering removing immpossible w/o removing majority of under/in dash stuff first.Thinking I'm going to be useing an aftermarket stereo, which take a generic type antenna cable connection, why could'nt I just cut the cable from an OEM base, and solder splice a generic cable allowing me to route it to the stereo and eliminating the need for an antenna adapter as well.

Removing the glove box should gain you enough access to
remove the ant and cable, may need to remove radio if still
in the vehicle. Splicing an ant cable, I wouldn't want to
do it.

I was going after an assy. in an Exterra at the junkyard-already had the glovebox gone. But under that is the heat/air con. ducting and more stuff-more than I really want to be ripping out.If the stock antenna cable is basically a 2 wire deal, then I can solder the leads together (done it a million times on c/b,vhf's in boats).
