own an 07 Frontier SE V6 crew cab about 6 months...30k showing on the speedo...16 mpg ? sheesh...I am easy on the pedal (no rabbit starts) and use the cruise as much as possible...other than a dealer tune up (major bucks) how do I improve the gas mileage? ... or don't I ? and will money spent at the dealer even help ? any ideas ?

Middle of winter, type of driving, 2-4 WD, man - auto, snow tires, tires set @ 35#, all these are factors in mileage. Are you checking after using a full tank or 1/2 tank? I just filled my truck after only using 1/2 tank and got 16mpg-warming up before leaving work, been very cold, etc. Usually get 20 or better. Right foot is very critical on gas mileage.< id="gwProxy" ="">< ="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" ="">

I never get less than 18 MPG, ( Even when I drove in 4X4 over Donner Summit (Over 8000 feet) in a snow storm about 40 miles long, doing under 25mpg, I still got 21 MPG.   I usually average over 19.5 and have gotten as high at 24.6.
When I drive, I almost never let the RPM go over 2500, there is no need to, the engine has super torque at lower RPMs and can handle most hills, also I am not taking hills at 70 MPH either. It usually shifts into OD by the time I hit 40 MPH. I find the best MPG is between 65-70.

you guys are getting much better mileage than me...I am easy on the pedal...very conservative driver...been very cold here, as well...I always let my truck warm up prior to leaving the house...I have checked mileage several ways...full tank or half tank...doesn't matter..always around 16-17...i am very disappointed...but then I thought...well, it's a truck and it's 4wd...yadda yadda...I think I answered my own question...maybe a tuneup is in order...bought this truck used...has 30,000 showing on the speedo and I wonder if this truck was abused a little prior to me buying? sounds to me like everyone else is getting much better mileage than me ... regardless of conditions

I would start with the air filter, how does that look?
30K way too soon for a tune up.

Are the tires the original size?

tires are original tires OEM 265/70R16 manufacturer recommended size...now the air filter, that's something I did not even think of...so many other things going on...it slipped my mind...although it was at the Nissan dealer after I purchased the triuck (approx 26,000 miles at that time) for a once over and they said everything looked good...I need to look at the air filter and then see where I'm at ... Thanks for responding so quickly...greatly appreciated...Bryon

Is it a GENUINE NISSAN oil impregnated air filter? It will say Nissan on it and the part # is 16546-7S000. Plugs are good till 105K. Clean and tighten all the engine grounds, may want to check with your dealer on the 2 degree timing advance. Remember, it's cold out, I'm sure it will improve come spring time.< id="gwProxy" ="">< ="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" ="">
