I'm looking at the 4x2 SE (auto) crew cab. I've read on some review pages about horror stories with warranty repairs and never getting responses from Nissan USA, which kind of worries me when I'm dropping over 20 grand on a vehicle.
Can some of you experienced Frontier owners share some stories about your vehicles? Any issues that you've had with maintenance, repairs, warranty service? If you've never had problems with your Nissan, I'd definitely like to hear that as well. People on Edmunds never say anything bad about their cars...people on other sites never say anything good. I just want some honest opinions before making my decision.
I appreciate any help you all can give.

Between ALL brands of cars/trucks there is a percentage of 'bad' ones. According to Consumer Reports (I'm a long term reporting member) 10 to 20 percent of all new car brands have multiple problems. Our new '99 Grand Cherokee was one of these problem cars but the Chrysler dealer was good on the warrantees. Our 6 new Nissans since 1995 have been good. Our 2008 Toyota is good so far.
The secret is make friends with people in the dealership at the point of purchase. Friends help friends. I had a radio warranted by a dealership and they didn't have to do it. I had 'sucked up' to the general sales manager! It saved me from having to chase around trying to get it fixed.
I'm getting our '08 Camry serviced at the dealership so they will know who I am and feel guilty when it breaks. I believe Toyota is bad about hiding and not warranting their problems.
People with problems are quicker to get on the web sites than those that are happy!
Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..
The lawmakers are putting expensive Band-Aids on symptoms, and not fixing the real problems

I own a 2006 Frontier SE crew cab, 4x4, six-speed stick. I bought it on October 3, 2005, and today I noted the odometer reading as being 95,850. It's the best vehicle I've ever owned. It had only one repair, the fuel tank sending unit, and that was probably because I was topping off the tank every single day when gas was going up a nickel a gallon a day. I had the front brake discs replaced at 53,000, and at last oil change the tech told me I've still got 40% left on these. I have never replaced the rear discs. I believe that my use of 5W-30 Mobil I, and proactive maintenance (all fluids have been flushed, including power steering and brake lines) and I fully expect to drive this truck to 200,000 miles without a major repair.

I've owned 2 Fords, two GMs, a Chrysler and four Nissans, which is telling. I've never had to use the Nissan warranty service, which is why I bought Nissans to start with. I DO have it serviced regularly, but that's just good sense. With the new CAFE standards crammed down our throats, I suspect it will be the last new vehicle of quality I'll ever be able to buy. I despise little cars and will have nothing to do with them.

Thanks for the responses...I think now the only thing I have any hesitation about is the gas mileage, but with a strong V-6, it's to be expected. My father-in-law's a GM man...his Sierra has gone a long time, but it's way too full-size for my taste...the Colorado...bleh. Fronty's have much more character and I think this truck is going to be my next vehicle.

I drove the Colorado just before buying this last Frontier, it felt didn't have the acceleration and other goodness of the Nissan V-6, it seemed like a decent truck, though. I wasn't impressed with the build quality, and the front end seemed loose as a goose to me, being used to my '02's rack and pinion. I just didn't like it as much as the Nissan.
The mileage thing is a kick in the pants. I know a guy with a full-sized, crew cab Silverado Z-71 that gets the same mileage I do, with a big V-8 It's one of those 4-6-8 things (5.7?) that only uses 4 cylinders when highway cruising or 6 for light stuff, or 8 for heavier work, or so he claims, anyway. Then again, he's still got a GM with all their many failings, and more stuff to go wrong, and a lot of it does go wrong.
I also know a guy with a Z-71, that had two tranmissions, and three sets of tires, within the first year of his ownership, and they still hadn't got it right when we took the truck to South Dakota on a hunting trip. He thinks he's got a great truck, aside from those problems, of course................................. It was a pain in the neck on that trip, I drove it most of the way, without a functioning cruise control or passing gear.............

I have a 2007 Frontier 6 cyl, 6 speed 4x4 and so far it is proving to be the
best vehicle purchase yet.
I just turned 60,000 on mine and am about to put on new rotors and pads
all the way around. The old rotors have plenty of meat left on them and
am only putting on new ones because I got a great deal on dimple drilled
and slotted rotor upgrades so I pulled the trigger.
Other than that nothing but some oil and a new pair of General AT's have
been necessary.
I did go for the warranty when I purchased it new from the dealer and I
certainly won't talk you out of it but at this point, I wish I would have kept
the money. As nothing has gone wrong and my cynicism leads me to
believe that I wont get anything if it does.
In terms of milage, I live in the NY metro area and drive fast and hard so
it does suffer, but on sedate, long distance trips on the highway I get 18
mpg with the bed full and 2500 lbs in tow and 20+ with nothing in tow.
Just like MidHudson 200,000 miles seems well in the realm of possible.
Good luck with your decision whatever it maybe.

I have an 08 Nismo with only 9500 miles. Although I haven't had any problems with it I'm a little concerened with some of the average comsumer reviews and long term reliability. Also as kmeyer previously stated there are those horror stores from people who have problems and dealers that often can't find or fix the issue. Hopefully it is a very small % of owners actually having problems compared to other vehicles. Since I don't drive much I worry about problems after my warranty expires.
