Just for fun I was pricing new trucks on the internet and did one of those "appraise your trade in" things on the Canadian black book site.  I was pissed to find that my 06 NISMO is worth over $2000 less than a TRD I compared with the same milage and options.  WTF?  To compare, I checked a Tundra and a Chevy with the same options and milage and the difference was about the same.  There is no way that Nissan and Chevy should be in the same boat as opposed to a Toyota.  When I bought my truck, becasue of the difference in financing, it cost me $2000 more to own the NISMO than a TRD I test drove.  I liked it more so I thought I would go for it.  If I traded it in today, that means it would have cost me $4000 more to own the NISMO for three years.  Whats up with that?

I am looking for a crew cab now and after seeing this it looks like it will be a Toyota.

Down here in FL you look at an TRD to a Prox I`ve seen the trd go for 5500-7500 bucks more over a prox. The whole reason that the resale is higher on the yota is its the jap version nameplate of chevy. Its the name of the truck Chvey truck have high reale but they are junk trannys and rearends blow left and right. Your Gen2 frontier is just as good as the toyota. Toyota is still livimg off the old days with the 22r truck motors. There history is why the resale is soo much higher on the toyota

WE!,all know how good these truck are. But even the dealers (Nissan) aren't really aware. I bought my truck in Calgary and it was like pulling teeth to find the model/colour I wanted. Nissan themselves don't seem to push this model. Have you ever seen a TV ad for them?

My answer to your question is, The general public is more enamoured with Toyota, in AB anyways. It's perceived value.

I'm up in Whitehorse for the winter and there are more Frontiers here than Tacomas ,more Tundras than Titans.
Hugh

I test drove a 08 Tacoma and an 08 Frontier. Both were 4 doors, 4X4, long wheel bases. Nissan had a better ride, by far. Tacoma seating position was too low and there was too much "rocking" in the truck like when making U turns where the Frontier held down much better. Most if not all reviews peg Frontier over Toyota, (edmunds.com, consumer reports, and yahoo autos) and I do agree. Nissan has the VQ engine, only one to make Wards.com list of best engines for 15 years. Nissan had by far more standard options, and the best part, my Nissan was $5000 cheaper than Toyota. At that point, who cares about resale? Suppose Toyota is worth $2000 more down the road, that would mean the Nissan is still $3000 less money out of your pocket. Also Nissan had better financing than Toyota.

Resale for someone like me who buys new and then keeps the truck for 10-15 years is rather a mnon-issue.  But what you think is right, take very good care of it, drive it sensibly, keep it for a LONG time and you will be MANY tens of thousands of dollars ahead in the course of 45 years.

The biggest problem people have in accumulating wealth is trading in vehicles too frequently.  Keep 'em, don't smoke or drink (bar prices will eat your pay check), and spend time doing things that are fun and productive (fish, hunt, garden).  Put your cash in your pocket and keep it there.

..

... In Ft.Worth Tx in 2007 when we bought our 2008 Toyota Camry it was about $1,500.00 less than the Nissan Altima... But the  New Tundra was about $2,000.00 more than the Frontier equally equipped. The same was true in 1998-99 when I bought my Frontier

... We didn't trade trucks 'cause my '99 is just like new at 10 years old and less than 50,000 miles. The "mid-sized" trucks are getting too large for my needs! I liked my KC hardbody but the First generation Frontier is just right for me.

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

Friends get ready for this…

In the future individuals will have to buy carbon credits. These carbon credits will be in the Commodities Futures Market and speculators will be driving the price up to $4.00 per credit!!!

Here in Kentucky, a Tacoma will cost about $2500 more than a Frontier, it's not much of a surprise to find the Frontier has less value later on in it's life, as it cost less to begin with.

A guy I know bought a Toyota the same time and year I bought my old '85 ('85) and it happens, I had occasion to drive his truck around a bit. It felt sloppy and loose as a goose compared to Old Blue, and I didn't care much for it.

I've stuck with the Nissans and been pretty satisfied with them. I don't much care about trade-in value, either, as it cost less to begin with.
